CARICATURES & PORTRAITS A collection of cartoons and caricatures, including celebrity autographs from some of my comedy heroes like George Carlin, Mitch Hedberg and The Kids In The Hall. For the record, I believe in collecting autographs in person. Their value to me isn't in any "certificate of authenticity", but in the encounter, in the story. Because of the caricatures or illustrations I would bring with me to shows, I was able to meet some very cool people who meant a great deal to me.

George Carlin - Spring 1997 I never saw Lenny perform live. I never saw Pryor. Or Hicks. But I saw Carlin. Three times. Everything that can be said about him comedically (his influence, his genius, his work ethic) has been said already by people who are smarter than me and who knew him better. But I can say this - I can't think of anyone else who made me think, "Aha! That's what I want to do with my life!" I met him during his book signing tour for "Braindroppings". My brother and I were second and third in line. He signed everything we had: our books, the drawing, our albums...He kept a copy of my drawing, at least until I left the bookstore. After the signing and while waiting for his car, he posed for some pictures with me. This was in the "dark ages" before I owned a digital camera, and the film (yes, FILM) never processed. Oh well. I've come to believe I don't need a photo. I know I met him and that I shook his hand.
Mitch Hedberg - 2001/2002
I must have seen Mitch perform five or six times. It was impossible to watch him and NOT become an immediate fan. Inspired by his work, I created posters and CD covers that I was occasionally able to get in front of him or Lynn. He genuinely seemed excited about all of this stuff. The above "Hirschfeld"-inspired image was created in 2005 and used in the 2008 "Mitch Hedberg Fan Art Calendar". It is also the current header on mitchhedberg.net. The photo must have been taken in 2001 at the Addison Improv. From Left to Right: Mitch, Fat Aaron, Aaron's Wife Nichole
